In March 2025, Kyiv again had the honor of hosting a great friend of Ukraine — Professor Jean-Pierre Filiu.
While in Kyiv, Professor Filiu analyzed the changing geopolitical balance associated with international negotiations in Saudi Arabia to end the war in Ukraine. Professor Filiu shared his observations in his publication for the French daily newspaper “Le Monde” – “Our world as seen from Kyiv”.
In this column, professor Filiu reflects on Ukraine’s diminishing role in shaping its own fate amid global power politics. He highlights how recent ceasefire decisions affecting Ukraine were made without Kyiv or Europe, primarily through a U.S.-Russia-Saudi triangle driven by transactional interests. Filiu draws parallels to the Gaza conflict, where a truce lacks the foundation for lasting peace. He warns of a new global order being imposed — one that sidelines European influence and risks turning Ukraine into a bargaining chip, with devastating consequences.
