The creative linguistic role of the Ukrainian edition of the European Dictionary of Philosophies consists in enriching and, to a certain extent, in standardising the lexical and semantic resources of philosophical Ukrainian. Another equally important function of the publication lies in the restoration and preservation of forgotten, half-forgotten or lost meanings of Ukrainian — and not only Ukrainian — words. In the fifth volume, this task becomes the most evident and the highest priority. The articles in the fifth volume examine the lexical-semantic resources of Ukrainian philosophical language directly through the history of its formation and the specific features of its usage.

The research covers fundamental concepts for Ukrainian culture such as FREEDOM, DIGNITY, TRUTH (Pravda), FATE, TALENT (Talan), GOOD, STATE, and others, as well as terms that reflect significant realities of Ukrainian history and the present day: UKRAINIAN BAROQUE, Chyn (deed/act), GUEST (Hist), MAIDAN, and the like. The object of analysis is not only contemporary Ukrainian terminology, but also the terminological framework of humanitarian thought in previous epochs, connected with Old Church Slavonic, Old Ukrainian, Ancient Greek, and Latin. The fifth volume includes an article on OUSIA, whose aim is to reconstruct the original Aristotelian meaning of this key philosophical untranslatable. A separate study is devoted to the ontological terminology of Hryhorii Skovoroda.
